Hello, Josh here. I don't usually get on the mic to talk about myself, but I wanted to share some thoughts about where we are, and how I'm feeling about this moment. It’s a huge honor to be recognized in this month's Fine Homebuilding Magazine's 'Keep Craft Alive' feature. This publication has been both bible and textbook to me since I first started to explore the carpentry trade in earnest, 15 years ago. I consider it to be one of the greatest teachers I’ve ever had, and it's surreal to see myself included among its pages. I'm extremely grateful. 

I want to acknowledge and extend my gratitude to my partner, Ben Valentin. Ben's not only a great designer, but has been my friend, advisor, and sounding board since day 1. The roller coaster ride this article refers to has been no joke. Thank you, Ben, for sticking by my side as Birdsmouth has and continues to evolve!

Our whole team has my deepest gratitude and respect. We're extremely lucky to have each and every one of you. 

This moment has personal meaning for me, too. I lost my Mom in an accident in 2005. Shortly before, we had a heart-to-heart conversation where she asked me what I REALLY wanted to do with my life. Though I knew I loved carpentry, I didn't really have a vision yet. But I told her earnestly that when I figured it out, I was going to try to be the very best at it. Being in Fine Homebuilding Magazine feels like a small step towards fulfilling that promise to her. She would be so happy to know that I've found work I truly love and am continuing to work towards something meaningful. Love you, Mom. 

As with everything, this work is a practice. May we remain mindful of our values and allow our work to be mission-driven. If what we're doing doesn't feel good and it isn't creating benefit for the world, perhaps it needs attention. Re-imagining.
